About me
Welcome! I’m Dr Stewart Thorling (he/him), an experienced counselling psychologist with over 10+ years clinical experience working across the NHS, charitable, and private sectors, which has allowed me to support people with a broad range of psychological and emotional difficulties.
I provide compassionate, evidence-based, person-centred therapy for a wide range of mental health and wellbeing concerns. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, or navigating significant life changes, I offer a supportive and collaborative space to help you make meaningful and lasting change.
In addition to private practice, I work within 56 Dean Street, an award-winning Central London NHS service that specialises in gender, sexual health and HIV care. This has allowed me to develop significant experience supporting people exploring issues relating to gender, sexuality, sexual difficulties and relationship diversity.
I am committed to providing affirmative, inclusive care for LGBTQIA+ people and those with diverse identities and lived experiences, while welcoming anyone seeking psychological support.
In addition to therapy, I offer supervision for qualified practitioners, trainees, and professionals working in health, social care, and related fields.
Whether you are seeking therapy or supervision, I aim to provide a safe, affirming and accessible space where you feel supported, understood, and empowered.
How I work
-
I believe the therapeutic relationship to be an anchor for positive and meaningful change. Therefore, my aim is to provide a space that is accessible, compassionate, non-judgmental and affirmative.
Throughout my practice, I have experience working with neurodiversity and will work with you to co-create a space that is inclusive, accessible and comfortable for you.
I adopt an integrative approach to therapy, which combines ideas and techniques from different therapeutic modalities. This allows me to provide therapy that is holistic, flexible and attuned to your unique lived experiences and needs.
I also recognise and consider the importance of intersectionality and its relationship to mental health and wellbeing throughout therapy. I hope we can collaborate and develop a shared understanding of your specific needs to inform and guide therapy.
I can offer short-term or longer-term therapy and work alongside you to better understand your needs and develop lasting strategies for wellbeing.

Online therapy offers a flexible and accessible way to receive psychological support from a private and comfortable setting of your choice. It removes the need to travel and can make it easier to fit therapy around work, family, or other commitments.
Many people find it helps them feel more at ease, supporting open and reflective conversations. It can also be useful if you live in a remote area or need continuity of care while travelling or moving.
Online therapy is effective for a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, trauma, and sexual health issues. The therapeutic relationship remains central, regardless of the format.
I offer online therapy only at this time using Zoom and Google Meets.
